Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative Research Associate
I’m thrilled to be joining the ranks of the Northern Rockies Conservation Cooperative as a Research Associate. NRCC is the brainchild of one of my grad school mentors, Dr. Susan Clark. A brilliant environmental scientist, Dr. Clark made her mark in the early 80s with her groundbreaking studies on Wyoming’s blackfooted ferret population, which, as I recall, was believed to be extinct at the time. After decades of watching on-the-ground organizations struggle through collaborative land management decision-making processes, Dr. Clark was drawn to a meta-framework known as the policy sciences. This was the most comprehensive of all the problem-solving tools and strategies that Dr. Clark saw organizations utilizing in her years of observing different iterations of the same dilemma. The policy sciences is a fascinating blend of psychology, sociology, and leadership, and requires integration of “-ologies” to a depth that’s rarely asked of us. It’s been exciting (and challenging!) to learn and attempt to wrap my brain around this interdisciplinary method.
